Sarah Long's review of Puerto Vallarta, Royal Decameron Complex

“We just came back from 2 weeks at the Royal Decameron...”

Good Points
It was a great hotel. I stayed in the Tropical Decameron and the rooms were lovely and spacious with a large shower and it was very clean with the sheets and towels being changed everyday. The level of hygeine in the restaurants and all around the hotel was excellent, you could not fault it at all.

Bad Points
No complaints apart from I feel that there should have been a smart bar for the evenings rather than just poolside bars.

General Comments
We just came back from 2 weeks at the Royal Decameron Complex in Mexico last week and we had a wonderful holiday. The first time we looked at the beach we were amazed, it was really beautiful with the mountains in the distance and it was very rugged. The hotel is good for couples and families and you can get involved in the activities on the beach and round the pool or just ignore it all and relax on the beach which we did. It's relatively far from Puerto Vallarta main town but not too expensive in a taxi so we did go out a few times in the evenings and went with another couple who we met in the hotel. You must go to the Marina and have drinks at the top of the Lighthouse bar, they have a jazz band there on the weekends and it's very romantic. Puerto Vallarta is a great place, very mountainous and rugged and lush (it's the rainy season at the moment! but only rains in the evenings). Take the local buses, they're quite bumpy but fine and cheap and go to Punta da Mita (end of the island) and eat some fish and swim in the secluded bay, really nice day out. Do the Mascota and Talpa flying trip, highlight of our holiday. We hired an open-top red VW Beetle for the day only 50USD for 24 hours, whereas it's 40USD to hire a jet-ski on the beach for 1 hour. I would definitely recommend the Royal Decameron Hotel (Tropical is best - block 4), you have a view of one of the breakfast restaurants, the pools and the beach. We are considering going back early next year. Absoloutely loved it. Some people complain for the sake of complaining and I heard people say 'The milk isn't like at home, and the tea doesn't taste the same', well stay at home then! The food in the hotel was very good with plenty of choice. There were about 2/3 a la carte restaurants that you had to book for by midday and a couple of buffet restaurants. Even in the buffet restaurants they served you drinks. There was never a shortage of food and the breakfasts were nice as you could have your eggs cooked to order in front of you and pancakes too. The staff in the hotel were so hard-working and eager to please. The Mexicans are very friendly people and even though there were people on the beach coming up all the time to sell you things, they didn't hassle you. I have to say that the sunsets on the beach were amazing. Definitely try this hotel for yourselves, well worth it for the price. (our reps from First Choice, Jackie and Lee were extremely helpful and always around if you needed them).
