Good Points

bed and breakfast / backpacker rates are very low. great scenery

too little time to enjoy it all


General Comments

My main reason for going to South Africa was to visit my girlfriend (who lives in durban), but when i got there, the place was absolutely amazing - i went back 3 months later. the berg, hluluwe-umfolozi game reserve, and st. lucia are very scenic - there's lots to see and do. i wouldnt recommend doing the battlefields unless you have a 4x4 and plenty of time. the fact that i'd forgotten to take my rough guide to south africa, was a blessing in disguise - i got a free "coast to coast" guide of south africa, from the tourist info office in durban - the guide lists loads of really cheap B&Bs and activities - most of our holiday accomodation was found in this guide. the fast food restaurants in kwa-zulu natal are great value and the food's really tasty, too. well, all that's left to say is that kwa-zulu natal is a great holiday destination!
