We got our kitten from the breeder with 2 months free insurance and during the time of this insurance we had the kitten checked out at the vet because she was breathing a little heavily - she had small nostrils which affected her breathing but was too young to be operated on. We then tried to renew a few days after the policy had ended and were told we would have to get a new policy. Now the kitten is 1 year old and needs an operation on her nostrils costing over 1000. Petplan is refusing to pay saying that there was a lapsed period of a few days when the free insurance ended and the new policy began so they will not pay since the small nostrils are a pre-existing condition.
General Comments
I chose Petplan insurance even though they are expensive because of the reputation of the company for dealing with claims but I regret doing so as they have not been at all helpful in doing the right thing by my kitten. Its also annoying that they have call centres overseas. I would not recommend them to any other pet owners as the excess on the policy means they do not pay out small sums and in my experience they do not pay out large sums either.
