General Comments
Initially we had 3 DOA Compaq Evo machines (PIV 2.4Ghz 128Mb 40Gb) all with faulty fans that sucked things of the desk and sounded like a plane taking off.
The machines that worked had reports about going slow using MS Office or any general apps, Changing between apps took around 20 seconds. We tested the PIV 2.4Ghz machine against a Dell PIII 700 3 yr old machine, the Dell machine seriously out-performed the Compaq.

Also, as an afterthought, Compaqs are very fussy what order you install applications. Wwe were installing XP, Office Xp, a Novell Client ,and then SAP. If you didnt do it int hat order, either SAP ran like crap or Office had problems, some of it connected to the windows messaging subsystem.

I ran several large rollout of Compaq machines, and installed 500+ in two years, the DOA rate was aroung 5%, a figure I consider far too high, especially when I'm bulk purchasing Compaqs. If you get a good one, it'll go on forever, if you get a problem with a new compaq in the first 3 months, ditch it pdq.
