Bad Points

Some people may look at their natural strength and tenacity as bad points. I would never let my dog run free without me, or be with small children unsupervised, just as I wouldn't with any other large or powerful breed. That is just asking for trouble! She can play pretty rough when she's feeling perky! The only bad point I have found with our pit, is she likes to chase after small animals (squirrels, cats, etc.). Although she is great with our cat! They are best buddies and play all the time. However, this could be a problem for someone in the right circumstance, so a watchful eye and a little planning is a good idea.


General Comments

When I was 10 years old I was attacked by a neighborhood pitbull who's owners routinely let it run loose in the neighborhood. Ever since I have had a hatred and fear of the breed. I don't really know why, but I began looking into them again about 3 years ago, and as luck would have it a pitbull puppy from a broken home was taken in by my girlfriend and I. We also own 3 other different breed of dogs, so we did as much research as possible before accepting what I viewed as a safety risk to me and my family. Well, now I can tell you that our pit is the most well behaved, loyal, loving, and all around best dog I have ever dealt with. We raised her exactly as our other dogs, in a warm, loving environment. As a former victim of a dog attack, I cannot believe where I am today! It truly is a responsible owner issue, not the breed. We have gotten involved with many other good pitbull owners since, and it really is sad how so many bad owners give this wonderful dog a bad rep! I'm not some activist or pitbull extremist or anything, I just had my eyes opened recently and wanted to share with anyone who would listen, as to what a truly wonderful breed this can be. Our pit is GREAT around children and even strangers! Another great point is their endurance. If you like to jog or cycle with a dog, this is an excellent choice. We get tired LONG before our pit does and even though she can go all day, she is just as happy to spend the day on the couch with us. As long as we're together, she's in heaven....
