Good Points

Well engineered & well made, robust, carbine size, powerful FAC, solid, light weight & compact - generally very good quality.

Bad Points

Not the best safety I've ever used, would prefer the Gamo safety which sits just in front of the trigger. When hunting with the BSA you often forget to flick off the safety with your thumb......so as you try squeeze the trigger your prey happily goes on it merry way.

General Comments

This is my second review of the BSA LIGHTNING XL in FAC and I just thought that I had to update my previous review. Although BSA in South Africa have a very poor customer service rating - this compact carbine rifle they produce is just getting better and better. After about 3000 pellets the accuracy and action has settled down - now at 30 meters it shoots spot on. I can put 10 pellets onto a beer cap at this range no problem. Furthermore, the recoil has settled down so much so that I can now rest the rifle on a pillow, or even against a tree (as long as the rifle rests on my hands, and my hands rest on the tree). Previously when resting the rifle the accuracy was very inconsistent due to the recoil - now it has settled down wonderfully. I was truly on the edge of getting rid of this pellet gun as I insist on only using quality products - but now you wouldn't be able to pry it out of my grubby little mits.
This rifle is just so practical, powerful, solid & compact that nothing in this price range can really touch it - just remember that the more you use it the better it will get. I have already taken out a tough guinea fowl at 40 meters with a head shot - the bird made an awesome stew.
