General Comments

The Dragonfly, Cleppa Park, Newport
Visit date: 27/10/07
Service prior to meal:
We arrived at 19:30 there were large queues when trying to get a drink at the bar prior to the meal, however you could see that the staff were working as quickly as they could, the service even though they were very busy was still very well-mannered.
You have to go up to another counter to place your food order, again this was a large que you then get passed a spoon with a number on to take to a table. You choose a table yourself you do not get shown to one.

Food service:
The waiters and waitresses were very polite and helpful.
The Meal:
Waiting time for food from time of order was approximately 20 Minutes

I ordered the half a duck with orange dressing with char-grilled potatoes and watercress.

The half a duck was only a large leg, there was no breast on there, the orange dressing was half an orange plonked on the top, the char-grilled potatoes looked as if they had just been chucked on the plate and as the watercress had been chucked on the top of it all it had wilted from the heat and looked terrible as was sagging down over everything else on the plate. The presentation was very, very poor and the taste was substandard.

My partner ordered the seafood salad with baby new potatoes with a side salad dressing.

The Haddock in mayonnaise had hardly any Haddock in it, the Tuna in mayonnaise tasted like a supermarket potted sandwich filler type so was nothing special, the Smoked Salmon was very tough, it was cooked for way too long as it was like trying to eat leather, the potatoes were again just plonked on the plate and there was hardly any side salad. Again the presentation was deplorable and the taste was substandard.

All in all the service was very good, was a shame about the que at the bar it seems that they could do with some more staff in that area. The downfall was when it came to the food itself, we shall not be dining there again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Perhaps if they changed their chef or gave him more assistants in the kitchen we might revisit in the future but who knows.....
