6966neil's Review of Ryobi RSH-2455 Garden Shredder

Good Points

Seems solid, robust, decent length of cable, autofeed function, quiet. Apparently good controls. Collection bag. Heavily discounted.

Bad Points

Bad design means can't work won't work. If it ever did, it would make 4-cm chips, not shreds that would compost quickly. But as I said, it doesn't work. It is very heavy. Discounted, but by no means a bargain! Never been more disappointed in a purchase.

General Comments

The design is based on an off-centre rotating wheel with cutting blades that are meant to grab the wood, squeeze it against a plate, thus nipping the stem off into fairly long chips. This is a "one-pass" operation, and since it doesn't work, the stems just get ejected with little notches in them. Despite correctly setting up the RSH-2455 striker plate, I have fed it rose, bamboo and birch tree stems of various hardnesses, diameters and lengths up to 100 cm, and it has produced the exactly the same (complete with regular notches) out the chute. I disagree completely with the review by mickhefferin, and agree with all the others. Normally selling for around £150, I found a shop clearance one for £33. Once I used it, I realised that it was not a bargain, took it back and bought a Bosch impact shredder that produces shreds, reduced from £130 to £97 - now that is a bargain!
