Good Points

Easy to use and and works (or should I say worked) flawlessly w/ other Sony components in my audio/video surround system.

Bad Points

After 1.5 years of moderate use (a movie or 2 a week), the discs periodically would skip, picture would freeze and/or jump back to prior scenes. I assumed this was caused by dirty discs or heat from the receiver unit, which is placed underneath. Last night, while watching a DVD it started acting up. Eventually I received a "no disc" and C:13:00 message. Initially I thought the unit might be able to be repaired, but after reading this is a common problem, I think the unit is junk.

General Comments

Overall, I am pleased with the Sony DVP S560D DVD player. I had hoped it would last longer, but I suppose, as they say, good things don't last forever. Problem I am facing is the DVP S560 supported Dolby 5.1. All speaker cables were fed into the ports in the back of the unit. I noticed many of the newer systems rely on a simulated surround. Now what do I do? I have $2000 invested in Boston Acoustics audio. It seems a waste not to be able to use it. I can use a little advice. Anyone?
