General Comments

A review of the Nokia 8600 - As a past owner of the Nokia 8800 I have become somewhat of a snob when it comes to mobile phone ownership and everything since hasn't quite felt as classy. As a result of this I decided to upgrade to the latest Nokia flagship model to again feel a little more superior than friends and the locals. When you receive the phone there is no doubt its a classy looker. Smoked glass, big screen and a back in fashion black body. Unfortunately that is where the amazement ended for me. The screen that was so impressive on the 8800 seems a little washed out on the 8600. I was convinced that I hadn't removed the plastic film from it but no it's just washed out. I moved my annoying ring tones over from my past phone but again was disappointed with the quality at which they play. They sound tinny and quiet where once the whole pub would look at me in disgust.

When it comes to menu's and options we have all the usual Nokia refinements here which always makes you feel like your meeting an old friend who totally gets you. Memory is 128mb and not upgradeable but the whole multi media thing isn't why you buy this phone. Its not until you make or receive a call that you really feel let down. The speaker is quiet at the best of times and the call howls like your chatting to chewbacca on the falcon. For the big price tag i paid i expect to feel like i'm in the room with people not calling them reverse charges from Africa.

In conclusion if you don't like features and you want to have your mates say "wow how much was that" then this is for you. Unless you have the best network going you will pay a high price though. Although i love the looks of this handset i cant shake the feeling it's not quite delivering in any department. A phone in 2007 should have good call quality regardless of the price as technology is sufficient to deliver that. So i may look good when texting but repeating myself and shouting at the top of my voice may negate that.

    Yep, the best looking ones aren't always the best performers. I agree. Been caught out like this before. For the time being, I'm happy with my Nokia 6300.
