Good Points

When I was having credit problems, they were the only company that would help me set up a card in my name - and I did so to re-establish my credit.

Bad Points

I found out that Capital One Platinum does NOT reflect on one's credit score. They have a choice to either report or NOT to report to the 3 major credit unions, and they do not.

General Comments

I've been with Capital One now for over 5 years. Recently, I changed banks. I had to enter my new bank account and routing numbers online, which I did, and mistakenly typed in a wrong number on the routing. I made a payment, and it was returned with no explanation. I made another payment and it was also returned, again, no explanation. When I contacted them as to what might be the problem, they wouldn't read me back what I had typed, so I had to retype everything and THEN the payments started going through. HOWEVER....this simple mistake on my part (and a mistake that anyone could make) cost me dearly: now, I have to wait 5 days before a payment can go though, they've threatened me saying, "If another payment doesn't go through, we'll shut the account - we have to protect ourselves and our computer doesn't know if you're trying to scam us or not..." Who talks to a customer that way? I was very dissatisfied with the say an honest mistake was handled, especially after over 5 years of no late payments, and no problems. Customer service reps are either mostly rude or have such strong accents one can't understand them. Forget about finding someone nice in the Fraud department (whom I dealt with during the above fiasco) - they don't care about your problems or mistakes - they're NOT about the customer.

I've currently built my credit up, and will be applying for a REAL card soon. I recommend what many others on this site have said: In closing, I would recommend what others have. Save $1,000 in cash, deposit it with Bank of America or another widely-known secured card issuer and get your "real" credit card that way. This would also establish you as having "rounded the corner" when it comes to your ability to control yourself. It was likely your wreckless disregard for debt that got you into this mess in the first place. Good credit doesn't come by doing the same thing and hoping for a different result. Change your ways, fix your mistakes, and your life will get back on track.
