The 2007 version of the S400 series has got a simple safety catch on the trigger (this does not disengage the firing mechanism in any way. It just blocks the trigger, simple but effective).
Air Arms have also designed a new stock, even the standard beech stock has a rich grain like walnut and a diamond cut checkering that any engraver would be proud off. Accuracy is no issue, its air arms! Coupled with their silencer its a superb airgun.
Trigger isn't the best in the world. But I am a target rifle enthusiast so I'm pickey about my trigger!
I recently got my S410 carbine with beech stock in .177 as replacement for my S410 carbine .22 (first model). I had swapped calibers after almost 10 years of being a die hard .22 fan. I'll say this before I carry on. .177 is NOT for everybody. Yes its trajectory is flatter but the pellets weigh about half as much and go a lot faster. They have far far less impact on quarry than a .22. The point is don't go for .177 straight away. .22's are far more forgiving once you learn its trajectory so don't give up .22 just yet!
Now onto the rifle..
First impressions of this rifle are of a well made rifle, good blued finish with a very nice stock (even in beech) The rose wood tip on the pistol grip gives it a little touch of British class! The palm swell feels bigger to me but thats because the rifle is new to me. The bolt action is somewhat smoother and the magazines have been improved, and feel stronger to use, Maybe its because it has smaller holes for the pellets I'm not sure.
The trigger in my opinion has lost some quality because of the simple if not slightly crude safety catch which is nothing more than a metal peg that gets in the way and stops the trigger from being pulled accidentally. It works superbly but isn't as high quality feeling as a catch from BSA or Daystate etc.
The new filling valve takes some getting used too but I think works better than the old version, it even has its own air filter now.
With about 70 odd shots in .177 theres plenty for a days pest control. Theres even enough for an HFT course in there! Accuracy... Nothing new there really, just as superbly accurate as ever! Maybe slightly quieter or maybe its just me. I could sing its praises all day, its easy too see why it won gun of the year!
In conclusion I would definitely say that the S410 is worth it. I didn't think it could get any better but I was wrong!
