Brand new Maxus van on latest rental, low cost due to company discount
Overcharged on latest rental without any notice. On calling, they claim I returned the van a day late. I only had it from 4pm on one day to 7:30am the following day, picked it up from and handed the keys back to the manager personally! As ever with Europcar, they make no notification that they intend to charge, they leave you to find out via your credit card later on, then you pay to speak to their customer services team. This hire was the latest in a long line of cars from Europcar where the form says the tank is full but it isn't. This van was new, but all of the past 10 cars I've rented from them have had damage which isn't noted on the form, making getting the car out of the depot a round-robin of hassle as you go back to the desk to get them to note the damage and fuel it properly, normally involving changing the car to another one and going through the paperwork again.
Go straight back to the office if there's ANY un-noted damage or the fuel needle isn't where the form says it is. Don't leave the car with them without a receipt, confirming time of return, fuel state and no additional damage. If it doesn't say this, ask for a signed note from the branch manager. This means lots of time, so arrive early if you have a flight to catch. I wouldn't use them if it weren't for our company discount, however on their latest overcharging fiasco I'm likely to go elsewhere and pay more in future to try and get better service.
