To all the people here who say their car is better...
Get a grip. Most japanese performance cars are fatastic to drive and have their own advantages and disadvantages. People can rattle on saying their car is the fastest-prove it. Go down Santa Pod and then we will respect it. To all the people argueing about the GTiR-MR2 Turbo. STANDARD FORM : 0-60 gtir is supposedly 6.1, but it feels alot quicker than that. Mr2 ranges from 6.2 down to 5.2 depending on which model. My mate has owned a gtir. i have just sold and am about to buy another mr2 turbo. another mate owns a sierra cosworth with a proven output (at flywheel) of 570bhp. The pulsar was tuned to 280bhp. My Mr2Tubro was standard. The pulsar was fractionally quicker. The cossie would be quicker if we could drive the bloody thing. It has far too much power going to the rear wheels so spins too much. To tune an MR2 Turbo ('94-) to 350bhp it will setp you back £3500-4000-i can give you a number if wanted). To tune a pulsar, i dont know!Mr2 at 350bhp will then do 0-60 in about 4 secs. No b******t. Pulsar is far more practicl than an mr2. Mr2 looks better. Although it depends on what you like looking at!!!

Im looking at getting a rev 3 mr2 turbo but am also interested in the pulsar, will the mr2 be cheaper to tune?
    what about petrol consumption?

what about the Nissan 220 s14 touring?

The S14 are a fantastic car but cannot compete (in terms of sheer acceleraion and speed) with the GTiR' s and MR2's. Both cars are expensive to run. You will have to expect a certain amount of expenditure on both models. The mr2 is more reliable and costs fractionally less to service/repair. The reason being is that most parts of the engine are found in the Celica GT4 and therefore parts are pretty much transferable. Toyota mechanics (once given a backhander) will do you very very good deals!! The pulsar was not as relaible. The probable cause for this was because the boost was turned up. The two cars are very different to each other. The pulsar is an animal. It is not a car for comfort (nor the mr2) nor for attracting women ( or men if you like that sort of thing) but is a great car to drive due to the high levels of grip. The mr2 was an eyecatcher. People cannot not figure out how old it is and it does attact the opposite sex in great numbers, especially if the roof is off.

With regards to tuning. It depends how far you want to take take it. Most people say for day to day driving keep the mr2 below about 350bhp. You could have it tuned to this for £2500 and still have a reliable car. Do it for much less and pistons will melt and you will spend even more money on it. The Pulsar is more tuneable but reliability comes into play again. To uprate it to about 400-450 bhp, you will prob spend £4-4500. Go any further and I couldnt advise at all. If you do want to go further, do what i will do next year. Get a late spec supra GZ aero top(auto only) and get a manual conversion done (about £2500). Looks nice and goes. Or skyine gtr. R32 was the best value. R33's are dropping in price alot more than 32 and 34, because in standard form they were not as good(supposedly).

You dont want to know fuel consumption. Last summer on the way to max power in birmingham from gatwick we used two thirds of a tank in the pulsar. Coming back we finished off that tank and used another. It does vary massively. We raced other cars both ways so the right foot was down constantly. Mr2 is prob better but fractionally. Both realistically, will give you 15-20. I would love to say i wont put my foot down and get more to the gallon, but that would just be a lie.

    Thanks for the advice-
I think an mr2 is the best bet, if I get a rev one/two with a good suspension set up do you think it will handle aswell as a rev3?
yeah I have to say the pulsar is not exactly a looker but is quite quirky, mind you, there isn't much room for manouvere in the mr2 so I guess it has its negatives too.
I guess petrol is something I will have to get used to- I drive a 205 1.9 and get up to 40mpg as I have an ecotek on it too.
I think the Skyline and Supra and an rx7 for that matter are just a little pricey too but an old Impreza may come into the equation- the only thing that puts me off is that everyone has got one!

I have not long burt a pulsar gtir its runing 350bhp had it for a few weeks now and had no probs. Its a mint pulsar and stands out a bit more than others. I have raced a scooby sti, astra mk4 gsi turbo, M3 and a few more and ripped them apart. I love the car to bits.

Any one who know's a little to a lot about fast cars will know that you shouldent compare an MR2 to an Gtir a better compairason is an EVO or STI. I mean a stock gtir does the same 1/4 mile time as an evo 4. Also a gtir has way more tuning potential 500hp would give you a 10second

Not really, just because it's rwd as opposed to 4wd, doesn't mean you can't compare them...I was more referring to what kind of turbo cars you can pick up that are in the same price category.
