Good Points

The website is well-designed and easy to navigate, although its availability seems to have deteriorated recently.


Bad Points

Fraud prevention has been a serious issue for us with the Abbey business account. There have been 3 fraudulent transactions in the four years we have had the account. The worst was an attempt to steal several £k via the telephone banking service, which was narrowly averted. Abbey offered no advice when things went wrong, did not take ownership of the problem, and tried to avoid reimbursing us for two successful smaller frauds (amounting to some £100).


General Comments

In our experience the customer ends up doing all the running when he is a victim of Abbey's lax security. As a result we rarely keep more than about £100 in our account these days which we maintain purely to receive payments from existing clients. The Abbey account would otherwise be too much of a worry for us because we could not rely on them to protect our money and could not trust them to take responsibility when things went wrong.
