General Comments

I owned a Ford mk2 escort RS2000 a few years ago and i must say it was the best car i have owned or driven.
exetremely good on performance considering the age of these cars is up to 27 years old now.
110 mph top speed and a 0-60 8.5 secs in standard spec( 2.0 OHC pinto 110 bhp)is pretty respectable even by todays standards.
the parts availability is very good because these old beasts are still being used in rallying and i did hear of a vauxhall XE powered group 4 spec mk2 escort beating a wrc spec focus in a rally so they cant be that bad eh! everything can be uprated on these cars depending on the size of your wallet and believe me the money is well spent as these cars are an absolute head turner when you go haring up the lanes with the exaust at full chat and twin webers emitting that dinstinctive induction roar!(owners of this fantastic will know what i mean)
the only downside to this motor is the short lifespan of the seat trim of those famous fishnets or rare rolltop recaros, a fellow called roy nunn can supply the betacloth trim for no less than £100 a metre it is that rare!
obviously the other downside is rust which affects all cars and cannot be avoided but dont let this discourage you because an enthusiast owner will have waxoyled the whole car and garaged it so they are out there in pristine condition you just got to look.
prices of concourse examples can go up to 5000+ but a really clean good car will probably set you back around the 3000 mark, a grand less and your looking at a car that may need some work on the body and running gear which can be costly.
oh and as a final note when i sold mine the bloke who brought it had seen ten other cars which were fakes, basically a normal escort bodyshell with all the bits fitted to make it look like the real thing. all rs cars were made from strengthened bodyshells the easiest way to tell a real one from a fake is the strut tops in the engine bay an rs will have a square strengthening plate on the inner wings whereas a normal mk2 escort wont.

Yes but you can put RS 2000 strut plates on a standard MK2 Escort.
