Lacking proper drivers.....I think

General Comments

This Pacific Image Electronics PF1800 Silver would be great if I can ever get it to work....evidently the software that comes with it isnt compatible with windows XP...I've attempted to to install it a half dozen times and it says it doesnt recogize the scanner........if anybody out there in la-la land has experienced this problem I'd surely appreciate some feedback.......I'd really like to write a favorable review if I ever get it working properly.......thanks mucho

For unable to communicate errors you need to check in the Windows Device Manager and make sure that Windows properly identifies the device as a Pacific Image product, if it is listed as a USB scanner or USB device double click on the device and select Update / Reinstall driver and when the warning appears for non logo certified select Continue Anyways (the hardware has been fully tested on WinXP, we did not pay the fee to be digitally signed off by Microsoft)

Thank you very much...I wrote this review in September and have since resolved all the problems....the scanner works like a charm....relativly fast too.........I have since scanned and stored hundreds of old family slides, some as old as 50 years....such a great way to restore old priceless memories at a reasonable cost...and than goodness for people "smarter" than me for getting me up and running......thanks again for the advice

The software is Windows XP compatible, however a warning may appear when installing on Win XP that the hardware was not digitally signed by Microsoft, this unit was produced before the release of Win XP and has not gone through Logo testing, however it has been fully tested and does work on Win XP

I purchased a PF1800 scanner and had no trouble whatsoever when my XP-Home Edition setup ran. WHat I did was to install the scanner to my computer, then I turned the computer on. When the CPU booted, the O.S. saw that there was new hardware and XP went through its install routine. Maybe you could try it that way. Hope it helps.

Hello, If the scanner came with Silverfast 5.5, then you need to visit www.lasersoft.com about a driver upgrade

Hello, You can download a driver for free from: http://www.scanace.com/download/drv_pf1800.htm, or you can visit www.lasersoft.com and purchase a version of Silverfast SE (which originally bundled with the unit).
