Trudi creates a very good, well though out plot. It keeps the reader reading. The story if set in a fantasy world which is generally my type of read. Book one starts off very well, focusing around the main character Sonea. Books two and three become more adult, introducing new themes aimed for a wider audience.
Bad Points
Poor characterisation. This for me was very annoying. Sonea, being the main character, should have been more active and involved in the outcome of the storyline. Instead she accepted her fate and let things run their course. Although realistic it does not prove very interesting! Trudi does not go very deep into any of the main characters, and in fact there are too many characters altogether. Remembering the names of all the teachers and who they are becomes challenging and frustrating. Equally Trudi could have done more to develop the world in which the characters live.
General Comments
A good read and I would recommend reading it. Very enjoyable despite the bad points. I'm still confused as to whether I like the style of writing or not. It is an omniscient style, which becomes frustrating and enjoyable and it is left on a cliffhanger each time. Hard to put down once you start!
