Good Points

Very slick
Packed with features.
Clear colour screen.

Bad Points

Too small for people with large hands
Touch sensitive areas on front badly positioned - too easy to accidentally touch and delete messages, connect to internet or dial.
Very poor user guide.
The "shift" key needs to be pressed twice to give an upper case letter.
Limited options on volume for ring tones, etc.
Too many features - most will not be used.

General Comments

My advice to anyone considering buying the Samsung J600 is to try it in the store. Get the sales staff to let you try it first, and do not be overwhelmed by its glamour. It is not easy to use. I think it this case Samsung have been just too clever for their own good.

After several years of using Nokia's, this phone required a whole new mind-set to operate. At one point I was set to throw it in the bin as it was not obvious where various functions were and far too easy to return the idle state losing everything - partially entered text or other entry - by accidentally touching the top of the phone, just by holding it. This is not for people with big hands - it'll be fine for small children.

The touch sensitive area on front panel is far too close to the joy-pad and it is far too easy to accidentally touch one of them when operating the joy pad.

The phone does look very good, and the screen is sharp and clear.

It's packed with features (including an FM radio) but I doubt I'll use most of them, partly because the user guide is so poor and the icons/control system is not very intuitive. The user guide is very unstructured and makes all sorts of assumptions about basics which are not explained.

Pressing the "shift" key turns text to numerals - something I've never come across before on any keyboard. A second press is required for a capital letter. Otherwise predictive text writing is pretty good.

It seems impossible to remove the annoying and unnecessary jingle which follows sending a text, and equally impossible to get a sensible volume with vibrate for the ring and msg received tones. I suspect it can be done, but it's so difficult to figure how, I've not done it.

There's a USB cable and software supplied on a CD-ROM. Recharging the battery seems quick, and the charge lasts about 5-6 days.

Camera picture (1.3Mpx) is average.

If a friend had not given me a lesson in what was what with it, I would have returned it.
