I have used this in conjunction with Norton in the past, and AVG has most often found viruses before norton, or ones that norton hasn't at all found. It also doesn't slow your computer down (in my experience) as much as norton or mcafee.
Seems to find viruses only listed in its database.
I still use Grisoft AVG as my preferred anti-virus application (compared to others I've tried including McAfee, Norton, NOD32, eScan and Kaspersky), though I do not recommend their anti-spyware and firewall. The most effective anti-spyware is Spyware Doctor IMO (out of dozens I've tested), and out of the few firewalls I've tried, I still stick with Kaspersky. AVG seems to find viruses only listed in its database. Files that aren't in AVG's database as a virus, but could potentially be viruses, appear to be ignored. This leaves a gap for rare or new viruses, or otherwise just general software that is capable of malicious actions. This is just from my experience and from what I've heard, though may not be factual (or at least fully). Their anti-virus is brilliant, though I was very unhappy with their anti-spyware and firewall.
