Good Points

good as straight photocopier

Bad Points

installation nightmare

General Comments

I purchased the hp psc 750 in June 2002 & used it as a stand alone copier.
The results where quite reasonable.
Recently I tried to link it to a new Dell XP windows computer & my nightmare begun.
Using the installation cd rom an ERROR message came up every time I tried to install it.
It read "cannot install because partly installed already".
I used the cd rom uninstall programme but it cannot be uninstalled fully.
The Hewlett Packard "experts" also cannot install it which means the printer is destined for the bin.
There is a major "communication" problem with XP computers & Hewlett Packard all in ones.
Take heed, Hewlett Packard & windows XP do not mix.

I have had a PSC750 which was working fine until I had a problem and wiped some of the files from my hard drive by mistake. I tried to reinstall, and after uninstalling first, then kept getting the message
"Error 1311 Source File not found G/Setrup/files.cab."
I then tried installing a psc 900 and get the same message.
Does anyone know a simple fix??

Dead simple solution found - simply select all the files on the CD then copy and paste them to a folder on your hard drive then run the set up program from there instead of the CD - it works!!

I have had exactly the same problem. After 2 years of faultless performance on my previous Win 98 PC, I switched to a Dell with XP.

The scanner wouldn't work. I un-installed it, then it refused to re-install, saying it was already installed. Now I have no way of removing the previous installation that is present, and no way of reinstalling. HP email support keep telling me it's different files that are causing the problem and are unable to help.

I now have a useless printer/scanner and lots of HP software on my PC that cannot be removed.

I have a PCS 750 that I have used with three different computers. I have used it with XP Home and Pro. had no problems with either the printer or the HP software.
It's the best printer I've ever used, I love it and would buy another.
I especially like being able to photocopy without having to switch the computer on.

When you install the print drivers they are set in your registry where alot of documents and or drivers stay and are hidden files, you would have to have someone who knows how to go into your registry to completely wipe out the previous drivers so they can be reinstalled. This would be my recommendation to anything that cannot be removed on your pc no matter what kind or type of operating system you are using. I know someone who paid 300.00 to have his computer cleaned out because of ad ware, spyware and to reinstall the print drivers for this same printer, and it still does not want to work.

Could also be something to do with the chipset issue? We bought a stack of later model PCS to hook into a network printer server. The previous HP's worked fine.. these didn't.

In the end our IT department figured out that there was a hardware issue between the printers and our servers. HP's suggestion was to buy new servers to fit the printers(!).... They'd also apparently never heard of AMD / Sun systems and couldn't guarantee compatibility..Speak for 'It won't work..' 10 PCS's returned and replaced with another brand that works fine.
