Good Points

Superior image quality. Very accurate automode and a lot of manual settings. Small size makes it very portable.

Bad Points

Heats up quickly. No setting for shutter speed. Bundled with 32MB card only. No battery meter, only blinks when battery is low.

General Comments

I bought this camera about 3 months ago. I love the small size of the camera. Makes it easy to carry around. It's also very solid, and is heavy enough to make it feel pricey. The body uses a new kind of material which is said to be scratch proof, unlike the previous models.

The interface is very simple. You can snap photos without learning much. But to use the manual settings to get better photos, I advised that you read the user manual, which covers just about every functionality that comes with the device. It is highly recommended that you read it first.

Battery life is so so. I can get about 5-7 hours of usage. That includes taking photos, videos, and viewing them every now and then. Charging is very fast. I can get a full charge in about 1h 30m after getting the battery low warning on the camera.

Picture quality is absolutely great. I'm not a photo expert, but i can tell a good quality photo when i see one. The quality is even better printed compared to normal film printout. The colors are very bright, and the focus is very sharp. The red eye reduction doesn't work very well coz i got a few of these, but they're easily fixable using Photoshop.

Another issue that i have with the image quality is that i cannot control the shutter speed. So if i take indoor photo without flash, and set the iso speed to 100, the shutter will be put on around 1/30. When set to this speed, the shutter will take a while to catch the light. Most of my photos taken during this time will come out blurred as i moved a bit when taking them. It makes it difficult to photograph fishes or cats indoors as using flash will frighten them.

Overall, I love this camera. It's got just about everything that i need in a digital camera. My second choice was Canon S50, which have more manual settings and is 5MP. But it's too big and the battery life is lower compared to the Ixus 400.
