Good Points

Relaxing, comfortable drive. Feels safe, solid and very very roomy at the back and I have my driving seat full back. The boot is vast. Genuinely great mpg.

Bad Points

Annoying rattles on dashboard but sorted under warranty. Tiny rattles on passenger door panels.

General Comments

VW Passat 1.9tdi 100bhp PD 2002 (52 plate)

Lots of room, rear seats comfortable and airy. Comfy seats, plenty of pulling power, lovely on motorways, can be as exhillerating to drive as you wish. Genuinely get 50mpg + on motorways, 44mpg on my way to work on A roads and sitting in city traffic.

Mine is serviced at Kettering VW - they've been brilliant. The car is always returned washed and shiny from a service, and cheaper then Reg Vardy service.

I bought the car with 30K miles on it, i've done 70K in 3 years (not sure where I've been!). So at 100K miles now and it feels just like when i bought it. Paintwork is superb, no rust. Changed the clutch at 95K miles. Brakes at 700K miles, and new cambelt at 70K miles too.

Same exhaust as new, no other engine parts removed. Just service at 10K miles rather than having the variable option switched on - as advised by the VW mechanic. Service costs approx £300 for a full and £180 for an interim, so less than £500 per 20K miles. I think the trick is to only have VW touch the car, and buy genuine parts. Its passed every MOT without any issues. Road Tax is £115 per year. Fuel tank takes approx 55 litres - good for 600 miles.

I'm looking to change the car - just fancy a change - but nothing i have driven (Volvo s60's, Audi A4...TT) is that much better if better at all. I might just see how many miles it will do. If you are thinking of buying one - my advise: make sure its all VW history, serviced regularly (I bought mine from a VW dealer and got 12 months warranty) and you should be fine.

On cold days the engine starts of a little noisey, but when its warm the Pump Deus kicks in and you are cruising in peace.

Hope this has helped with your decision making process. Whatever you choose to buy, i hope you enjoy your car as much as i enjoy my Passat.
