There are very few saloons that can provide much challenge to this car. Especially when moving at 80+ MPH, it's is remakably solid with confident and predictable handling.
Don't even think about finding a better price for gasoline, especially at the expense of AKI/Octane. You wouldn't burn second class jet fuel in a world class fighter jet, right?! Follow BMW's recommended service/inspection intervals regardless of expense. The total cost of ownership is all a part of the priviledge of driving "the Ultimate Driving Machine", you'll just have to accept that.
I traded in my beloved 2001 BMW 530i when I discovered a one owner trade, 2003 BMW 540i V8 6-Speed, being offered as a CPO by a local BMW dealer. It is the last model year of the E39 chassis and mine was the 30th anniversary run of BMW's 5-Series in 9/2002. The engine is a piece of automotive engineering genius. The 6 Speed M-Tecnic Sport Package is a must. It is very difficult not to show ignorant challengers that they have no idea what they're up against. It is unlike any car I've ever owned or driven. The perfect blend of muscle and sophistication, which never fails to get that one final look of gratification over my shoulder when I put it to bed for the night. It constantly draws the eyes of envy and although many other manufacturers have attempted to emulate her with fine examples of their own, there is no doubt in my mind that some day she will only be surpassed in her all encompasing splendor by another BMW of her genre.
