Helps to rebuild credit.
Improved website (MUCH improved!)
Free online payments.
Several fee free credit limit increases.
Lowered my annual fee by $100.
Still just a re builder card.
Still being charged the monthly fee.
I posted a review of this card last year when I'd had it for about four months. Now, I have had the card for about 15 months. I am still pleased overall with this card, much more than the other "rebuilder" type cards my husband and I have, even considering the high fees I paid when I first opened this account! (STAY AWAY from First Premier (no cli in over a year and they charge a high fee to pay online) and Orchard (they will offer you a low interest rate and then jack it up, and also give no cli!)
I started my Aspire account with a $300 credit limit and I am more than double that now. I expect to get another credit limit increase soon. All of my credit limit increases have been free. I have another card that charges $25 for a cli!
I have never once had a problem with my payment posting to my account in a timely manner, and my payments always free up available credit (they don't hold payments like some of my other cards). I accidentally went over my credit limit once (a four times a year charge I had forgotten about posted to my account) by a few dollars ($13, I think) and they didn't charge me an over limit fee.
My annual fee was mentioned on the statement prior to it billing, and it had been reduced by $100, to only $50. I have not had one increase in interest in the time I've had the card.
Aspire has recently VASTLY improved their website and you can now see what transactions have posted to your account, see your account balance and available credit, more easily pay your bill, and more. It really is a great improvement. I have called customer service once and I had a satisfactory conversation with them.
All in all I am still pleased with my experience with my Aspire Visa. I have been able to obtain a few more cards because of my history with Aspire (among other cards). In February I got a Hooters Mastercard with a $1000 limit (last month or so bumped up to $1200). This may not seem like a big deal to some, but it is a HUGE deal to me because last year I could only get a card like Aspire with high fees.
I still think that most people who have problems with Aspire probably are the cause of their own problems. If you pay late or not at all, they are going to charge fees on top of fees, just like any other credit card company. Use the card wisely, as a TOOL FOR REBUILDING CREDIT, don't charge what you can't pay for, always make more than the minimum payment, and you will be fine! If you can get better cards, by all means, don't get this one, but if you can't, then Aspire is better than some of the other ones out there!
