Good Points

Fantastic looking colonial style buildings, well maintained gardens, nice pool (but little used by anyone), water sports, all inclusive option at £40 each seemed expensive till we saw the prices - 22 Euro for a bottle of house wine, friendly staff, internet access. mini bar not restocked each day.

Bad Points

Poor service at times - 2.5 hours for lunch, wrong food orders, slow drinks service if not forgotten, wrong information given by reception.

General Comments

I would recommend Sugar Beach Resort despite my negative comments. The staff tried so hard to get things right but struggled with continuity of service. Not the hotels fault but the poor weather for 50% of the holiday did not help. The hotel was hosting a corporate event for an international company for 4 days of our stay and we got the distinct impression that other residents service suffered over the 4 days with a feeling we had gate crashed someone's party. As all inclusive we were entitled to eat in the a-la-carte restaurant on a Monday, Wednesday & Friday... This however was taken over by the corporate event on the first Monday without us being advised. On complaining the hotel did serve us Lobster (not in all inclusive deal) in the buffet restaurant free of charge as an apology. The general level of service was good but 30% of the time they "dropped the ball" - always small things but when on 5 occasions out of 14 they got the lunch order wrong it started to get on our nerves. If flying BA it's worth booking your seats on line 24 hours before departure. On my return I've spoke to 2 other people who said they had also experienced dull and rainy days whilst in Mauritius. The side of the island we were on was reported as the least windy of the 2 main hotel areas on the island.
