The car I hired was perfectly acceptable
I was charged for extra insurance that I never agreed to accept.
I booked a hire car to be picked up at Bergerac Airport in May 2007. The hire was arranged through Novacarhire and the car supplied by Europcar France. I booked the car in February and I paid for optional excess insurance at that time.When I picked up the car at Bergerac Airport, I made it clear that I did not want other excess insurance. When I returned the car, without any damage, I was told that everything was OK and my credit card account would be charged the amount I had been quoted , 254 Euro's. When the credit card statement arrived, an amount of 370 Euro's had been charged by Europcar. I tried for several months to obtain an explanation for the overcharge and eventually I received from Novacar a copy of a document containing an amount for excess insurance which Europcar said I had agreed to pay. I pointed out to Novacar that the document had not been signed by me, but at that point Novacar stopped accepting emails from me.
It would appear that any person hiring cars from Europcar at Bergerac Airport should not accept what the staff there say but should make sure that they obtain documents that they have themselves signed.
