* Inexpensive
* Decent scope with the combo
* Powerful enough for medium-large pest control (possum, raccoon)
* Hard to cock (40-45+ lbs).
* Overly-lubed out of the box, resulting in a lot of dieseling during break-in
* Heavy recoil effects ability to maintain sight picture
* Accuracy is not top-notch
* Stiff trigger
First off, the versions: The Winchester 1000 comes in "B", "x", and with or without "s". B is black; x is wood; s is scoped. The 1000SB, therefore, is the black synthetic stock version, with the scope (combo).
For the price, the Winchester 1000 (W1K) packs a good punch. It is hard to cock and has a heavy recoil, which -- combined with mediocre accuracy -- can affect overall performance. Within 20m., the W1K can handle pests with ease. Pellets are spit out hard and fast enough to dispatch squirrels and rabbits with less-than-perfect shots. With excellent shot placement, possum and raccoons can be taken, as well.
The very heavy cocking effort makes this a hard rifle to suggest for new shooters, young shooters, or generally weak shooters. If you're looking for a rifle to hold tight groups on paper, this isn't the rifle for you. If you want an inexpensive rifle to patrol a farm or back yard for pests, the Winchester 1000 will fit the bill.
