Good Points

As a first time rider I've nothing to compare this with, however I found the height and size of the machine adequate for my height, (6'2"), good acceleration, balance and ride comfort. On average I was getting 60 mpg. Terrific storage capacity.

Bad Points

The length of the arms on the side mirrors.

General Comments

I had lots of fun riding my Yamaha YP400 Majesty to and from work and was just beginning to venture out on the highway when a major problem occurred one evening riding home from work: The engine quit on me in the middle of my ride home. I was able to get off the road and could re-start the engine, but as soon as I attempted to accelerate it would die again. This occurred on July 24, 2007 and the Majesty has been sitting in the dealer's shop ever since, (Oct 9, 2007). Neither the dealer's mechanics nor Yamaha have yet been able to figure out what's wrong, which isn't encouraging. In searching the internet I've only come across one other similar problem where a reviewer complained of the engine dying after riding from a cold start. Yamaha is determined that the machine can be fixed and will not consider replacing the Majesty, (which I purchased brand new in June 2007). It was a great ride while it worked, but I would recommend buyer beware. The only other negatives I found are the length of the arms on the side mirrors being too short and the way the gas gauge works. With the side mirrors, half of what I see in the mirror is myself, even when they're adjusted to lean as far out to the sides as possible. Part of this problem also relates to my sitting as far back as possible, if I sat closer to the front I saw more of the road behind, but then being a long legged 6'2" my knees got in the way. Another few inches of mirror arm would solve this, which I expect is probably available after market. The gas gauge with its LC display only changes after the gas drops by increments of about a quarter tank; one minute you see a reading of 3/4 tank, then you're suddenly down to 1/2 tank of fuel. the problem is you never know when the gauge will change and how much fuel you have at a given moment.
