Good Points

Shanzu Beach Hotel - the accomodation is rated 4 star but in English standards don't expect more than 3 star max. The rooms were comfortable and had large balconies/terraces with air conditoning (eventhough quite noisey) service is very good, the staff can't do enough to assist you.

Bad Points

Airline is awful, very cramped seats, food is inedible and service is non existant, if you are lucky enough to have any in flight entertainment it will be a film which is at least 1 year old, but to be honest is better than nothing.

General Comments

Afican Safari Club sell the hotel as the Shanzu Paradise Beach Hotel, where in actual fact they are 2 hotels in the same chain. The Shanzu Paradise & The Shanzu Beach. There is no difference in the rooms of either hotel and all the facilities are shared - the Shanzu Paradise restaurant is however slightly better decorated and is located at beach level but the food offered is the same.

You can use the facilities of all the groups hotels and all are well maintained and very good. Evening entertainment is not very good and any shows are at additional cost.

All drinks at the hotel are charged for in euros, which makes them more expensive than buying them locally (approx double the price of a local bar/shop). We paid our bill on the credit card and therefore got a better exchange rate as it was from GBP to Kenyan Shillings which is better than using the euro.
We would advise you to take Kenyan Shillings to spend outside of the hotel as you get more for your money - and use a debit/credit card to pay your hotel bill.

The local Village has lots of small shops where you can buy your souvenirs at very good prices and if you use the supermarkets you don't have to haggle (we also used them as a reference of how much items should cost).

The local taxis are very cost effective and safe. We paid 1800 Kenyan Shillings (approx £12) for a return jurney to Mombassa (the taxi even waited for us for 4 hours in mombassa whilst we shopped), the hotel charge approx 20 euros per person for a tour of mombassa.

African Safari Club being Swiss has the group geared to the German market and they out number the british 10 - 1.

Overall we enjoyed the holiday and the hotel, but couldn't recommend booking as the flight was the worst I have ever been on.
