Good Points

Small size, image quality, metal body

Bad Points

Slow start-up and shutter release delay especially when using flash. This means it is almost impossible to take photos of babies - by the time the shutter triggers, that beautiful smile has turned into an ugly frown! Flash range is also pathetic and no manual overrides for shutter speed, aperture or focus. Metal body spoilt by the ugly blue/purple plastic. Although menu system is relatively good, I still yearn for a few buttons to get instant access to the most-used functions.

General Comments

This is my first digital camera having stuck to 35mm photography until now. Image quality cannot be faulted so this reservation has proved unfounded but the absolute lack of manual control over the photograph, especially aperture control, is extremely frustrating. In the end, this is a very expensive way to take Instamatic photographs - a criticism not directed solely at the P1 but the whole concept of digital photography as it currently stands. The alternative of buying a high quality scanner and sticking to 35mm photography is hard to ignore until prices come down.
