Old car, in bad condition which had not been cleaned, with substandard after sales service from Economy Car Hire


General Comments

The car which was delivered by Econmomy Car Hire was unacceptable. It was dirty, covered in scratches, had spilled coca cola in the side bins, ash in the ash tray, etc. Over and above this the car was an old Opel Astra with over 150,000km's on the clock, the model which was phased out towards the end of 2005. After challenging this to the representative we were advised that we had no choice and that there were no other cars available. Either we would have to find another car or go to the terminal and book another car. The rep advised that the car was acceptable and said that the car was less than 2 years old - both were not correct and we were made to feel uncomfortable. Every time that I have rented a car it has been clean and relatively new - a basic expectation when renting a car. We were offered a replacement car that would be delivered the following day however we had no phone call, even though we had given the representative my mobile number. We ended up using the car all week.
