Cheap, relatively easy to set up, slim design
Noise from cooling fan makes it unusable
Bought this from ASDA, after a really bad experience with another purchase (See Sony RDR GX120 review). Onn... the face of it, a good buy - HDD and DVD for under £120. But after plugging it in and waiting for the noise to stop, decided the noise must be from the Hard Drive, which, I assumed, would be constantly rotating, in order to provide the Time shift facility. Looked through all the menus - no option to stop the Hard Drive. Listened a little more closely and realised it was the cooling fan. So - turned the machine off, intending to just use it when I wanted to record. The screen went dead - no through connection for SCART In - Out, whilst the machine is off. Which, together with the above, made it just about unusable. Rang ASDA, and to their credit, once again, said "Just bring it back for a full refund - no problem" I did, and as they promised, refunded the money cheerfully. Cant recommend the DVD recorder, but cant fault ASDA.
