Review of Band in a box 2007 - easy to set up and very easy to start using immediately (although it takes a bit more time to master!). This software will give a pretty good approximation of chords for a track from its MP3 file; provides instant accompaniment with bass, drums (Real drums sound great), melody and harmony; is able to interpret its own melodies from a simply entered chord structure and will show these on diagrams of the fretboard or keyboard; add ons include tutor pieces for guitar and keyboard - my copy came with a slow down add-in that allows all those fiddly solos to be slowed right down without changing the key!
Bad Points
As you get deeper into the software, recreating a song you already know the chord structure for is quite difficult (or maybe I just haven't understood this section!) - because it has so many options and facilities, you can often find yourself moving away from what you've worked on with a single mistaken click. Patch maps are provided but my Yamaha keyboard is all over the place and difficult to match to the instruments set up inside the software (no problem if you are using the software created instruments of course)
General Comments
This is a fascinating piece of software and a great addition to the home musician giving a really good range of accompaniment styles and mixes (each 'combo' can be mixed to your own individual preference). All in all, this a great piece of software that I'm pleased to have bought.
