Very comfortable, quiet, excellent ride, safe handling even when driven hard. Even after a long journey, I am rarely tired as this car is such a pleasure to drive. Every one who has been a passenger has always commented on how quiet and comformable it is. A set of tyres lasts around 25,000 miles and the exhaust is the orignal (my dealer said they have never had to replace one).
Expensive to run/service although if you buy an expensive car then you should expect this. I usually get an average of 25mpg, not much more than 18mpg though if you only do mostly short or town based journeys. My battery goes flat after 2 weeks if I don't do two or three 50 mile + journeys but an overnight charge keeps it fine for at least another 2 weeks. Had the auto gear box and wiper motor replaced under extended warranty.
The Jaguar S Type is an excellent car and I would buy another one but as Jaguar are about to stop making them I have put down a refundable deposit on an XF, if I decide not to go for an XF (unlikely) then I would certainly go for a newer second hand S-Type, although to reduce the risk of expensive repairs I would recommend extending the warranty which although is not cheap is definitely good value for money.
