Good Points

Bargain price, small size, large screen.

Bad Points

Battery life, cheap construction.

General Comments

The Goodmans GDVD 67 is half the price of most other portable DVD players with 7" lcd screens.
The player itself feels quite cheap, it's made out of plastic and the build quality isn't great, it feels like a really cheap laptop - I guess this is to be expected at the price.
The playback is good, the sound seems good from both headphones and the built in speakers.
The screen only has adjustments for brightness and colour, a contrast adjustment would be very useful as the picture tends to look very flat.
The unit comes with cables to connect to a television, although it only has a composite video output. There is also a carrying pouch for the player and cables, some headphones and a car cigarette lighter power adaptor supplied in the box.
There is an AV in port as well as an AV out, which would suggest an external signal could be output on the DVD display, perhaps a playstation etc. should you wish to do that.
The battery life stands at about 2.5 hours - which seems to be pretty much standard for portable players. The battery pack clips onto the back of the unit and is fairly bulky.

I also had problems with the audio when playing non region 2 discs (the player can be made multiregion using the supplied remote control), the audio seems to skip slightly in places.

Overall I think it's worth having if you're in the market for a portable player with a decent sized screen and don't want to pay upwards of £600. The unit just doesn't feel like it's worth £300 when you pick it up though.

have you got the hack for this machine

  • geclinke Rank: 2nd Lieutenant on 26th Mar 2004

    I'm pretty sure it was this, if you still want the hack;
To convert this player to Multi-Region
    1. Press the Setup button on your remote control
    2. Press the Next button on your remote control
NB: If steps 2 thru 5 have no effect, you may need to press the equivalent buttons on the player itself
    3. Press the Previous button on your remote control
    4. Press the Next button on your remote control
    5. Press the Previous button on your remote control
    6. A code should appear on the onscreen display
    7. Using the Left and Right direction buttons on your remote control, change the code to VER 1 for region 1 playback, VER 2 for region 2, and so on, or VER 255 for multi-region playback
NB: You may need to use the up and down buttons to select the region option before you change it
    8. Press the Down key once and change the code to VER 3001 to enable parental controls, or VER 3000 to disable these controls
NB: You may need to use the up and down buttons to select the parental controls option before you change it
    9. Press the Down key once more and change the code to VER 4001 to enable Macrovision, or VER 4000 to disable this feature
NB: You may need to use the up and down buttons to select the Macrovision option before you change it
    10. Press the Down key once again and change the code to VER 5001 to disable VCD/SVCD playback, or VER 5000 to enable this feature
NB: You may need to use the up and down buttons to select the VCD/SVCD playback option before you change it
    11. Press the Setup button on your remote control
    12. Press the Setup button on your remote control

The GDVD67LCD does not seem to play my home made DVDs created on my computer from my digital video camera. Sometimes I can get it to show the menu page of these DVDs and sometimes the first title or two but little else. Mostly the DVD will not load. Nor does it play DVD films downloaded from TV via my DVD Recorder/Player.It does play "commercial" videos OK.
    Any ideas anyone?
