General Comments

This is one of those cars that everybody has to own. I'd wanted one for years, and the wait was worth it. I doubt anyone will ever understand the 205 GTI, unless they have driven one. It was, in my mind, a final flurry of craziness in a politically correct world. You're aware of how thin the panels are, and the engine sounds like a bag of spanners on idle. The steering is ridiculously heavy. And then you pull away, and when you escape the city, suddenly everything makes sense. I've never driven anything that is so completely infectious. On a country lane, you cannot help but bury the accelerator, the GTI teases you deep into license losing speeds, and I have never grinned so hard whilst driving any other car.
It is a piece of pure engineering, untouched by safety officials, no ABS, no PAS, no traction control, no airbag. Just you, the driver, at one with a piece of machinery I can only describe as awesome!
