General Comments

My wife was stationed in the USA for 3 months recently and because of her company's relationship with AT&T she was given an Apple iPhone while there.

She has used it a huge amount and whilst I am less familiar with it I have had quite a few goes with it on my trips to see her.

I do read that the iPhone is going to be quite expensive in the UK given the contract details and the cost of being online etc. and I have to admit that I don't know about this side of the product. That aside the overall product is fantastic.

It stored all my wife's songs and videos on the "iPod" part of the phone (well not all of them - but certainly all the ones she actually wants to listen to or watch).

It works fine as a phone and to be fair has a good battery life. The one issue is that she (I) spent so much time on the net or on the phone or listening to music that she did need to recharge it frequently. Forget to take the opportunity to recharge it and if you are using it a huge amount (which is possible) the batteries do run out. It seemed like my wife had a dozen spare chargers left variously at work, at home, in the car, in her handbag, just so that her iPhone always worked. Though it seems like she has just as many hair-dryers everywhere so maybe I'm just being petty!

The screen is sensational, go on the net and move your fingers apart or together to zoom into or out of a part of the screen. My wife bought a Belkin case to protect the screen whilst it wasn't in use, which was probably better than it rattling around in her handbag.

The best bit is the linking up with your PC.

There are a few detractors that say the phone's a jack of all trades and master of none. However most people that have used it, including me, think that it's very good at everything and as a total package is sensational. Arguably for some people the iPhone's too commercial to be cool, but for most people it's too cool to be commercial. Having talked with my wife about the iPhone at length, I know when it arrives in the UK Apple will have at least two customers for it.
