Good Points

Brilliant rides if you can get on them.

Bad Points

The priority queueing system.

General Comments

We only managed 4 rides all day mainly due to priority ticket users. As we queued for an hour, youngsters were allowed to queue jump as many times as they wished for a price. This practice is shameful I would just be too embarrassed to do it and I'm so upset that I will not return.
I think this is quite simply a bad way of making more money from customers and in my opinion is another step in encouraging a greedy, self obsessed society.
A day out at a theme park is supposed to be a fun day out! This practice causes resentment and stress surely not the goal of a theme park.
American theme parks have a brilliant system for alleviating cues which is fair to all and costs no extra. If cues are long your ticket is stamped for a return at an allotted time. We will not return whilst this practice carries on.

    Hi there,

It's a shame you did not enjoy your day and won't be returning. Whilst I agree that the fast track system can cause resentment (I witnessed this on R.I.T.A.) it is a handy way of getting on more rides on busy days.
The fast track system used by some parks in the states, where a time slot is allocated is indeed a much fairer system but at Alton they found that by mid morning all the time slots had been allocated, so many people could not use the system. Although costly for the customer (and you could agree that it's money grabbing by the park themselves) it's fairer for parks to have a system that all can use, if they want to.

What were the queue times like for the four rides you went on? I know people that went the same wknd as you to Alton and managed a good ride count as they said the queues varied from 40 mins to 20 mins for the exciting rides and even less for the smaller rides.

If you get there at opening time (you can even get in early with some tickets) and hit the big rides first thing, you should achieve a much better day out than your last experience.

    Regards.

    Chris.

I agree with what you say about fast track tickets. It's created a two tier system at Theme parks like Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, whereby people in the standard queues consequently have to wait even longer. Its just an excuse for Theme parks to make more money and should not be allowed to continue. The idea you say they have in the States sounds much fairer. I myself have bought Fast Track tickets, but only because I felt I had no choice - either that or spend all day queuing for one or two rides, and lets face it no one wants to do that. There were 3 of us so I ended up spending an additional £27 - and it stuck in my throat a bit. Its been said countless times before, but the answer is to go in term time during the week when its less busy.

Term time is indeed a great time to go (especially early or late season) but many family theme park goers (like me) have to wait for a weekend. I have found over the last year or two that if you go on a weekend after the summer hols but before the Halloween weekends, you will find the parks very quiet. Over September and October, my family and I visited Thorpe, Chessington and Alton Towers, all at weekends. The longest queue we had out of all of them was 25 to 30 mins. Now that's pretty good going!
