General Comments

I have just purchased the Out N About Nipper Double 360 pushchair after months of research and deliberation. It was a choice between the Nipper, the Jan Powertwin and the Phil & Teds Sport Double. The Nipper won hands down!

The problems with the Powertwin were that my 12 month old's feet were already touching the foot board in the front seat, so the front seat would only last a matter of months before his feet would be dangling dangerously around the front wheel. He is also going through the arching back phase when trying to strap him in the pushchair, and in the Powertwin he really didn't sit that well. The front seat also doesn't really recline enough for me to be happy for my son to sleep in it. The rear seat was better for seating, as the legs can dangle past the footrest strap into the basket. However, at 12 months my son's head was nearly touching the roof of the hood, so that would also be outgrown rapidly. The Powertwin is great for getting through small gaps, but it is quite long, so if you do a lot of walking in town on pavements you will find it hard to fit it on if waiting to cross a road. The seat recline has a good mechanism, and it is good in one way that the child at the rear can see over the front seat. However, I can envisage it would be great fun to also bash the child in the front on the head as well! I felt from pushing the chair that if I were going up a steep hill with the heaviest child at the front there could be a chance the pushchair could tip to one side also. The Powertwin is not easy to collapse and fairly bulky, so it is hard to store and heavy to lift into a car.

The Phil & Ted's - well you either love it or hate it. I hated it. Far too fiddly; don't know where to start really - even reclining the seat involved undoing zips before fiddling with straps, and it was all too wobbly and not sturdy enough. I hate the idea of a baby slung into the bottom also.

The Nipper - well it is a dream! So light, and easy to push and steer, and I couldn't even tell the difference with my one year old in it. I put him in and...no screams! I was worried the fact the seats tip back might annoy him, but he appeared to be so comfortable in it, and if he felt like sitting up he just put his arms out and sat up in the seat anyway. It is easy to fold down, and fairly compact when folded, and it's easy to put into the boot of my car (I can lift it 6 months pregnant no worries). The hood is huge, and still about a foot away from my sons head. He had his little legs crossed (a sign of contentment!) so they didn't really even go over the edge of the seat yet. This will mean the pushchair will last me a lot longer. When it comes to getting through tight gaps, no problem there, as the pushchair isn't too wide, and so light that you just lift the back up to get it through a wheel at a time if you do get stuck! Not something you could do with other side by sides. I don't think it would be too easy for an older child to bash a younger child either, as the divide between the seats is too high to get an arm round really. The only niggle I have with this pushchair is the seat recline - I wish it had a proper mechanism rather than straps, but you can never get that 'perfect' pushchair!
