Good Points

Unsure. "Value for money" rated 5 due to the fact that the card has no monthly/yearly fee.


Bad Points

Poor customer service; argumentative customer service; act contrary to customer requests.


General Comments

I signed up for an MBNA Credit Card on campus in order to get a free T shirt. I got the shirt, and soon after the card arrived, several "convenience checks" started arriving. The problem is that anyone could snatch these checks out of my mailbox and go draining my CC account.
I of course called MBNA and told them to stop sending them to me. The representative was unfriendly. They removed my name from that list, and I received more checks, even 60 days after my request to cancel (there is a '60 day cleanout' for the list). I called again and told them to stop sending them to me, and the representative was argumentative, saying that I had already made the request (in an attitude which conveyed "why are you wasting my time?"). I explained that I had received more, and I want no more under any circumstances.
Months later, as I noticed that I wasn't using the card regularly due to my distrust of this company, I called to cancel 2007Aug17. Instead, I agreed to 'upgrade' my account to the card that I am reviewing, the Platinum Plus card (they offered good 'rewards'). I said that I would upgrade provided that they send me no checks, because last time it was a pain to get them to stop. Today, 31st August 2007, two more 'convenience checks' have arrived.
I called to cancel, and the representative used the 'it takes 60 days to get your name off of the list' excuse (they were not unfriendly). I said that my signing up for the new card was contingent on them NOT sending me said checks. My name wasn't supposed to be added to the list in the first place!
Based on my experience, I would never recommend this card, or any card from MBNA.
