Bad Points

Like any insurance company, they stick to the fine print of their policy regardless.
If you need to return home for any reason that isn't covered under the policy, your policy ends. If this happens, you do not get a refund on the unused portion.
Mental Health not covered.

General Comments

I expected to be away from Australia for 12 months, so I took out a 12 month travel insurance policy with World Nomads. After 5 months I injured my knee, sought treatment at a hospital and was told to monitor it. After 5 1/2 months I had to return home to help someone in the family who was suffering badly from depression. The mental health of the traveller or their family is not covered, so I had to foot the bill myself. Fine, I thought, I'll just get a return ticket and continue my trip after a month at home. On arriving home, my knee was still bad, and I sought treatment again. I called World Nomads (you're supposed to tell them ASAP in the event that you may make a claim), and they told me the following: "If you return home for any reason that isn't covered under the policy, your policy ends." Further, they told me that it was illegal for them to pay for my treatment at home. Okay. So what if I go back overseas and need treatment on my knee? I was then informed that if I take out a new policy, I would have to list the knee injury as a prior condition!!! Unbelievable.

Okay, so I can't get my knee fixed overseas and will have to do it at home. I can't claim any expenses for the cancellation of my trip. Alright, well I'll just take this all on the chin, get my refund for the unused months I paid for... but no, there is no refund!

Oh, yeah! World Nomads rock! Extremely not.

Honesty doesn't pay, apparently.
