Good Points

As known, a great cheap player that's multi regional, doesn't look tacky and offers DTS output. This is a super first buyers machine, for those who like uncomplicated gizmo's that does what is says on the box - or least what you've heard about.

Bad Points

Having praised it, now I have to knock it and for a serious film fan it's a bulldozer to the thing. It may be me but the Alba doesn't like Science Fiction movies, as a fan of the likes of The Abyss and Stargate, when a film is released boasting EXTRA SCENES restored - SPECIAL EDITIONS - it doesn't like inserting the extra scenes into the film. It will replay to the previous scene and play it again. Okay it may serve as a good indication that "Hey restored scene mate!" but I find it damn annoying. The Remote Control isn't the best, the colour makes it look cheap,(as it is) and not clearly laid out for fast action pressing or thumbing around in the dark with just the glare off the TV. At times the playback becomes jumpy, skipping the odd frame, I find having to pause for a second or two sorts it,(and no it's not because it's switching layer on the disc - Shawshank Redemption double sided Disc is the proof).

General Comments

On the whole, for the average film fan though, this is an excellent machine and gives the viewer a good picture and sound quality - Ideal to buy the kids and to keep them quiet with the latest home entertainment system.

On the down side, for movie purests that like their SPECIAL EDITIONS, then it appears it can't handle it. Likes to take a breather before normal service is resumed. Sorry but you may as well have kids throwing popcorn at you, rustling sweet wrappers and mobile phones going off at the cinema to spoil your movie enjoyment - not a home entertainment player doing it for you at home and failing to deliver.

Solution - spend a little extra money, my dosh is going on the Toshiba 210e.
