General Comments

I wanted a pay as you go phone on a different contract to my contract phone because the T-mobile signal is not reliable in some areas I visit. I didn't want to pay over £50 and I was surprised to find the Samsung E250 which fitted the bill perfectly and is on Vodafone. The screen is 32mm x 40mm and is very clear except in bright sunlight. It is quite slim and only weighs 80g. It has an MP3 player and fm radio - the latter only seems to play through headphones so I haven't bothered with it. The MP3 player is quite good although not very loud. I have Bluetoothed some mp3s across from other mobiles with no problem. You can also buy a data cable which is what I will probably do so that I can connect to my PC using Samsung software.

The menus are a little different to my old Samsung E720 and some things are in different places - eg the bluetooth is under Organiser rather than settings. The instruction book is a little unclear on how to assign photos and ringtones to contacts but I muddled through. I have previously gone for clamshell handsets but I really do like the slider action on this model. The games supplied are only demos and you have to pay for the full versions - not for me but my son likes to try them out!

The only downside is the VGA camera but, as this is only a second phone, I wasn't too bothered. I bought the silver handset but it is also available in lilac or black.

What exactly is VGA and why is it inferior to other standards?

VGA is the lowest quality graphics - then you get the megapixel cameras such as 1.3, 2.0, 3.0 - now all the way up to 8. Basically VGA is quite grainy especially if you want to transfer photos to your pc or to someone with a higher quality camera phone.
