I am a new customer to Barclays - but have got quite a few experiences that make me feel deeply unsatisfied. First, I opened a cash ISA with them - just to find out that it took them a month to register the account, although they happily accepted the cash right away. Once it was opened a month later, they "forgot" to accrue the interest over the time they were processing the documents.
Moreover, I and my partner are experiencing all the side effects of their merger with Woolwich. We held a mortgage and an Open Plan account with Woolwich. They provided fast, efficient, excellent service. However, since the merger kicked off, our cards, internet and telephone banking got cancelled with no notification; no replacements were issued. It took ages to order internet and telephone banking access to our moved accounts - and experience Barclays call centre staff hanging up on us several times.
The latest insult was Barclays' call centre staff response to a request for the new cards - as Woolwich cards got cancelled. We were told that our new Barclays cards cannot be issued to us because there are no address records on Barclays system (they magically got wiped away during the merger). All we need to do is to bring all the ID documentation to a branch to make them believe that we still live at our address. Meantime, we successfully get their post related to the Cash ISA - they apparently have no problem with address at all. What a pain!!!
Don't bank with Barclays if you have a choice - they seem to be spoiled by the huge number of customers, and do not care for them!
