General Comments

I picked up this air rifle quite a few years ago for about 60 bucks. It shot decently at 25 yards, but it IS NOT a suitable varmint rifle. I shot a bird at 30 paces, and it hit the wing. It ran a bit, 2nd shot, it ran some more. 3rd shot was about 20 paces, and it still lived. I would never recommend this as a hunting rifle, only a plinker.

As a plinker, it does its job well for the money spent. I retired it for a Gamo Shadow 1000 (which recently had a broken seal) because the stock and the piston/barrel came loose. It is only held together by the cocking pin I believe. But, since its all I had left, I brought it back out. Its got a very short stock (I'm only 5'7), heavy and creepy trigger. Aside from that, I am capable of half inch at 12 yards. Plenty enough for my plinking needs. I feel this Beeman Silver Bear 1783 is a perfect youth rifle for the money. For 16+ and hunting, I would recommend the Gamo Shadow 1000. The one bird I shot with it at 15 paces, dropped like a stone.
