They refused point blank to refund or exchange goods that were faulty. Their excuse being that I didn't have alterations done at their 'recommended' jewellers. I have searched their website and there is no clause saying you forfeit all rights if their jewellers is not used.
I purchased an amethyst and topaz watch back in february 07 which I wear only on special occasions. I had to have a link removed as it was too big which was done by a professional jeweller. On 18th august I e-mailed customer services to explain that a link had broken and to organise a return (just in time to be covered by the 180 day warranty). Not long after, a gentleman telephoned to find out what was wrong. After I explained the problem he said he would do the paperwork immediately for the return and refund. When I mentioned that I had had it altered, his attitude changed. He told me that I probably wasn't entitled to anything off them as I hadn't used Stanleys, the jewellers that they recommend, to do any alterations and valuations. He then said that he would call me back as he was going to check with his manager. He later called to say that my issues about the watch was with the jewellers that I had used and that I definitely would not get anything from them. I have explained that the fault is higher up the strap and that it is nothing to do with the alteration but he would not listen to me. I have since searched their website and I cannot find anything that states you will forfeit your rights if you do not use Stanleys. I am now contacting trading standards to see where I stand and I will never purchase anything from them again as they are not willing to even look at the watch before deciding what to do. If they bothered to see it they would notice instantly that the problem is with them not anyone else.
