Good Points

Stunning looks. Worthwhile improvements over the S16 mk1.

Bad Points

Cant find any.

General Comments

I've been shooting with an S16 mk1 for a few weeks now and fell in love with it. Unfortunately I couldn't source one to buy so settled on the S16s or mk2.

At first glance the shroud on the "S" model makes the gun look "chunkier" therefore heavier. It's not. Any weight difference is minimal and cant be detected in holding each gun in either hand.

The chunkier look is also made by a longer forestock being fitted. This longer forestock alleviates a niggle, that the Mk1 has, when using a bipod. The "S" has room to hold the gun firmly with a bipod fitted as the QD stud hole is situated at the front of the stock leaving plenty of room for gripping the gun with the left hand.
The QD stud hole is of normal size allowing me to mount a Harris type bipod.

The buddy bottle is the same length as on the mk1 but now has improved seals. Still hard work to fill though as it is a 400cc bottle. I've now purchased a 9litre air tank for filling. (Something to note is that when using an air tank you allow filling to take place slowly. Filling the bottle too quick results in heat, made by the passing air friction, that will expand the air thus giving a false reading on the pressure gauge. This is not peculiar to rifle bottles but is a matter of physics).

The air gauge on the rifle is now more accurate. Rather than a tricolour gauge, approx half inch, showing empty and full, there is a gauge of over one inch showing pressure readings in bars and PSI.

Logun's own reviews say the cocking action is improved to minimise pellet blockage. Personally I found no problem with the cocking action or the auto loader (also said to be improved) on the mk1. However, the cocking bolt now is made of stainless steel as opposed to the aluminium bolt on the mk1. The action is as quick and smooth as ever and is easier due to being able to grip the forestock while reloading with a bipod fitted.

The trigger action has been improved. I'm able to have a much lighter second stage set on the "S" as I could on the mk1. Care must be taken when setting this as when the trigger is too light the gun will not cock.

Firing the rifle is much the same as the mk1 but feels steadier. Both models have reassuring weight to cushion any kickback but the "S" with its fully shrouded barrel is quieter and the absorption of kickback better, giving a steady aim and better accuracy.

In the field the "S" feels lighter. This is probably due to the shroud acting as the silencer and is spread along the barrel length instead of being mounted at the fore end of the barrel. Moving the gun into a firing position without the weight of the silencer on the end gives the lighter feel.

My own garden range is 26.5 yards. Both guns fire pellet on pellet at that range but with the "S" I know without doubt my shot will be pellet on pellet. I have yet to test the gun on longer range targets but I know the results will be impressive.

I intend to take up the lifetime warranty offer from Logun which requires the gun to have a service every two years (cost £90). After that the gun is all but maintenance free. The barrel will require cleaning but the handbook shows exactly how to do this with ease. The engineering behind the rifle is superb as is the mk1.

I find domed Accupells (14.3gr) give no problem with loading or accuracy so will stck with them. The only new pellet I may try is the Verminpell when in the field.

Altogether a brilliant gun made better. There is still the problem of double loading but that is down to user error and nothing to do with the gun.
