Good Points

An excellent motorway cruiser my 2.0D Classic is a company car and I got it because it just crept under the £20k limit I was set and it sits on the drive next to my Jaguar XJR-S 6.0 V12.
Daily commute speed is 90-100mh. At 70 it is almost silent, at 100 you start to get more tyre noise.
The car has been utterly reliable apart from an intermittent boot lock fault.
Front tyres lasted 30k, rears 60k.
Build quality is excellent, no rattles. Startup engine noise is not in S-type/Chrysler 300C territory.
30k miles per year and at 60k it is still a good drive.
The boot is the largest in the Jaguar range due to its suspension but it is not very high.

Bad Points

The Classic is poverty spec, I would have loved to have cruise control for £20k.
Boot lock has an intermittent fault and has refused to unlock 4 times in 2 years, unlocks after 10 minutes of cursing. As there is no split/fold rear seat this means your stuff is locked in the boot.
Classic has 2 wheel drive and it can torque steer and scrabble if too much power is applied.
Ride quality is good but this is not an XJS.
Classic trim is cloth seats in a particularly annoying material, only serves to show what a cheapskate you are.
Styling is junior Jaguar. the headlights look a bit pinched.
The Classic does not have headlamp washers. The small headlamp lenses concentrate the beam in the centre, the heat dries on dirt and mud right at that focus spot. consequently you can emerge on to a dark section of road and see absolutely nothing.

The boot is the largest in the Jaguar range due to its suspension but it is not very high. Second best Jaguar I have had, I am considering replacing it with a X-type 2.2D Sovereign or a 2.7D S-Type Spirit.
Pub bores say it is a rebadged Mondeo but I drove both back to back and this is not the same machine. It feels smaller than a Mondeo (a good thing) and is quieter and sharper. Excellent car for long commutes.
