Good Points

Wide range of food, most of a good quality. I have never had a bad meal here. Oh and their cheeseboard as a pud is pretty decent too.

Bad Points

They won't serve you a pint of diet coke! They will only serve you coke in special coke glasses. This is annoying, if I want a pint of coke why can't I have one? Also, depending on what you order, the portion can be a bit small, especially when you consider the price.

General Comments

To be honest, if I wrote this review a couple of years ago I would have given The Swan (Chef & Brewer) restaurant in Ash Vale higher marks. Perhaps familiarity breeds content, but I am a bit bored of the place now. The specials menu is not very special, in that it nearly always stays the same! Having said that, the place is always pretty packed. If you turn up at 1PM on a Sunday, be prepared to wait at least an hour for your food.

I have been to many Chef and Brewer franchises and the Swan is one of the best around - that said its not all that great these days. Things started all going bad around the time they had a refit nearly 2 years ago now.

As for your pint of coke - its not coke - its Pepsi and there in lies the problem. Pepsico ONLY allow fountain drinks in their own glasses - which is a smidgen less than a pint (I think 500mil) - if the pub were to serve you a pint you would be getting a whole 68ml more in your glass and they could not charge for it.

Personally I think that Pepsico need to grow up and allow landlords to serve a pint of Pepsi! On another note - the Chef and Brewer in Old Basing is the best in the area...go try it!
